Operation Blankets of Love
...Providing Comfort to Homeless Animals

Since their inception in January 2008, Operation Blankets of Love has provided over 25,000 donated blankets, comforters, towels and other soft bedding, plus pet items that include food, pet treats and toys.

These items go to homeless animals in shelters and rescue groups that are in need now. When an animal cuddles in a soft bedding it feels warm, comfy, safe, secure and relaxed. This increases their adoptability which saves lives!

SNiP
a low-cost public spay & neuter program offered by the pasadena Humane Society

SNiP's Feral Cat TNR Program
Feral cats are cats that are not socialized to people or to living indoors. They range from cats who have never had human contact and display behavior similar to a wild animal to semi-tame cats who were once pets. Feral cats live outdoors in groups known as colonies. These colonies can survive on their own but their lives can be improved immensely by a regular caregiver. Caregivers accept responsibility for caring for the colony - not just leaving out food, but ensuring every colony member is sterilized, vaccinated and monitoring the colony for newcomers, injuries and illness.

Feeding feral cats - isn't that the wrong thing to do? Just leaving food out can cause more harm than good. However, a responsible caregiver can stabilize the population, reduce wandering, limit possible conflicts with cats outside the colony and keep the cats healthier. The end result is that feral cats with a caretaker pose less of a threat to owned cats that share the same environment. As a caretaker, if you notify the neighbors of the benefits of caring for the colony (i.e. reducing population, disease and fights with domestic cats) and that you are taking the responsibility for this care of the colony, you will help gain their support.

Can't we just trap and remove all the cats? You can - but if there are cats in your area, they have a food supply attracting them and keeping them in the area. Trap and removal opens up an ecological void which more cats - unsterlized - will eventually fill. So what can you do?

Trap - Neuter - Return
TNR is the only proven way of stabilizing and reducing a feral cat population in an area. Trap-Neuter-Return is proven to reduce colonies by up to 50%.

TNR is the humane alternative promoted by the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. Our SNiP TNR program actively offers free spay/neuter for feral cats throughout our service cities and Altadena. Optional microchipping is available for the cost of the chip. If you would like more information, please contact our SNiP coordinator.

You may contact our SNiP coordinator by calling 626-792-7151 x138 (you may dial the extension at any time) or sending her an email at SNiP@phsspca.org.

Please understand that due to the high demand for our low-cost services, it may take up to two weeks for us to return your call or email. Thank you.
